Scotland : First Edition : Hand-coloured
One-inch map of Scotland : First Edition
Surveyed 1845-78, and published between 1856-87 on 132 sheets (including 57A). Mapped area on each sheet is 24 by 18 inches, (covering 24 by 18 miles).
The following maps are outline editions with contemporary hand colouring, dissected and mounted on cloth, with blue marbled covers (6.5" wide by 10" tall when folded), and an index diagram to the whole series on each front cover. Excellent condition.
The hand colouring has green for parkland and estates, blue for inland water and coasts, railways are coloured red with different pastel colours for county boundaries, enhancing the original fine engraving to give some wonderful productions.
Index map for this series (with thanks to the Charles Close Society).
