Third Edition boxed set
Ordnance Survey Quarter-inch Third Edition, England & Wales
A boxed set of maps, dissected on cloth by Sifton Praed, in a strong leather case. The condition of map case and covers is very good, with the maps being excellent. The case lacks the measuring wheel, but has the key and is one of the nicest case we have had.
The sets of maps for England and Wales (12 sheets) have been dissected and mounted, double sided, as four maps in maroon covers. Each dissected section is 4" wide by 9" high. Sections have been grouped as strips going across the country shown, so as to make it easy to move across the map when used in a car. Thus, the England and Wales 'South' map has 22 panels side by side, whilst the 'North' map only has 6 panels side by side, reflecting the narrow northern part of England. The 'North' map is two panels high, the others one panel high, usually with all panels double sided. Having 'played' with it for a while, it would be nice and easy to use in a car.
The maps appear to be from the 1921 issue.
A very unusual item in lovely condition, £75 plus postage at cost.
